Live Lessons
Many teachers are not comfortable using live apps such as ZOOM, Google Hangout, or Skype to provide instruction. Flipgrid is an app which allows you to record your lesson and upload it to the app. Students and parents can log on at their convenience and listen to the lesson. Students can record their responses and send them back to you.
Length of Lesson
Teachers should reviewing what has already been taught. No one should be teaching any new concepts until further notice. Lessons should be no longer than 20 minutes.
Packets for students
TEA is collecting information from your district pertaining to printing needs and potentially mailing packets directly to student residences
Communication
Many principals have asked teachers to use their cellphones to communicate with their students. Many teachers do not want to use their cellphones for personal reasons. Class Dojo and Remind apps may be used instead. You can also use *67.
Remember: Teachers must communicate with their students in one way or another. The choice is yours!
Office Hours
All teachers should set up office hours a couple of days a week where parents and students may contact teachers. Plan on being available for a couple of hours each of those days to answer any questions about their work and assignments. No one should be asked to work after work hours.
Daily Schedule
Your schedule should be to check your email at the beginning and at the end of the day. Some days you may have one meeting and other days you may have two or three. No one should have to be in front of the computer 8 hours a day. Everyone’s schedule should get easier as they get familiar with their routine.
